Why we should read books?

We are becoming a society that reads less and less. According to recent studies, 42 % of people declare no interest in books. These results are alarming, because reading has a very positive impact on human development:

1 Reading teaches thinking

The basic canon of human communication is based on words, because they are the basis of our thinking. Confronting book, based on words, with TV broadcast, based on images, the language turns out to be more versatile. It allows us to express both external events and internal experiences. People are thinking, because they operate with words, and not because they see images, so reading stimulates the brain to think.

2 Reading stimulates the imagination

When we watch TV, it does not allow us to think for ourselves. We do not have to imagine anything. While reading we have a lot more freedom. We assign roles by ourselves, create background and follow the action. Every detail looks like we want. A good book moves and invigorates the mind.

3 Reading develops the ability to express yourself

Reading simultaneously requires language skills and develops them. Those who do not read anything or very little are very easy to recognize. They frequent use of phrases such as: „Well, you know what I mean ", "No ... that. ... '. They are jamming, groaning and replace words with gestures or mimic sounds. The assessment of people and objects are limited to the adjective „cool” or „great”.

4 Reading teaches patience

During reading information processing takes place in the mind, and it is slow. Turning pages, entering gradually into narration, we are trying to understand the book step by step. The pace depends on us. For certain things you can always go back, you can select and mark the most relevant information. You could say that reading at the same time requires and teaches patience.

If you think about it, you probably would find many more reasons why we should read books. That is why we should care that as many people read as possible. After all, writing is the foundation of civilization.
