10 Tips on how to read books efficiently

If you want to succeed in any field , whether it is personal development , e-business or learning a foreign language, at the beginning you need to acquire some knowledge that will allow you to achieve the desired goals. An important skill is fast, yet effective reading of books, e-books, and any other written content. If you have a good method than you are able to read a lot of books in a relatively short period of time, and most importantly, you can take advantage of their contents in real life.

In this text, I present you my method for efficient reading. I'm not a guru of speed reading. I read at an ordinary pace, but I'm doing some things that allow me to do squeeze the most value from any book. I do not read for the sake of reading, but in order to get a professional and useful knowledge, which can be helpful in the future.

I come now to the list of things that must be done to effectively read any book. For me, this worked, so maybe it will also work for you.

1. No procrastination!

Do not make too long breaks between the book chapters. For example, if you started to read the book on Monday and read a chapter , then do not wait a week to read next , just read the second chapter , for example on Wednesday. When you will take some longer breaks while reading books, it's likely you will not remember what you read in the beginning, and as a result your knowledge will have some gaps.

2. Take notes!

Remember to take notes. If you are reading a traditional paper book, you should prepare a notebook and a pen, and take notes of what you have read. If you are reading an eBook, you can also take notes. For example, I take notes in text files, which then I can save on a computer, and sometimes I even print them. Take notes of only the most important information. Do not write a book from scratch. Keep a record of only the important points, buzzwords that will remind you of some issues, which you can then easily find in the book.

3. Use in practice!

Use the notes you took in practice. I think you know what you were doing these notes for? If you have saved something, you did it to later benefit from it, right? No book of personal development will be effective if you do nothing, to change your life. Write down your goals and start to implement them. You have taken notes step by step, so what are you waiting for? Get to work!

4. Get adequate books!

Good books can be found in the library, especially if you are a student, because then you have access to good and expensive (and for you for free) publications at the university. You can also catch various the deals on the Internet.

5. Focus!

I read books when it is quiet and in the evenings. You should find the best time for you to read. Perhaps it will be in the morning or while listening to music on the bus. It all depends on your personal preferences, you should find them yourself.

6. Use the list!

When reading use the table of contents. You do not have to read all the chapters in the book, read only those that you actually need. If you want you can go back to others later. Read carefully the parts that are most interesting, and just scan the rest – in case the title of the chapter was not so interesting, but after scanning its content, it turned out to be very good.

7. Read the best books!

Make a list of books that you must read, and then start doing it. I always read a book and after reading it I reach for the next in the list. In fact, I only read eBooks, because I do not like to have to read paper books. With eBooks you can do almost everything you want. I can enlarge the font to such gargantuan proportions that the eye does not bother reading the small letters in books or I can also quickly search for information in a PDF file by pressing ctrl + f. This is in my opinion a much better way to search for important notes than any bookmarks in a paper book.

8. Do not be afraid of foreign languages!

Do not be afraid to read in foreign languages. Read in English (mandatory) or in other languages. You can find very valuable literature that is well known in the world but was never translated to your domestic language.

9. Print if you like!

If you do not like reading from a computer or tablet, then you can always print an eBook or only buy hard copies of books. Do as you prefer, so the reading will be as pleasant for you as possible.

10. Take action!

Above you can read 9 very valuable suggestions for smooth reading. Now you just have to apply them and get on the road of development.
